PS member held for pelting stones at MP’s vehicle

A member of the Rideegama Pradeshiya Sabha has been arrested in connection to an attack on a vehicle providing security to Kurunegala District MP Nimal Wijesinghe, also known as Nilwala Wijesinghe.

Police said stones were pelted at a vehicle of the MP’s motorcade at around 5.30 pm yesterday (04) in the Walimuni Kanda area within the Gokarella Police Division.

A Rideegama Pradeshiya Sabha member was arrested by Gokarella Police at around 8.15 pm last night in connection to the incident, a Police Headquarters release said.

The arrested local politician is to be produced before the Kurunegala magistrate’s Court today while Gokarella Police is conducting investigation for the arrest of two more suspects involved in the attack.
