A special team of officials have been sent to Anuradhapura this afternoon to assess the present situation and minimize election law violations, Commissioner of Elections Mahinda Deshapriya said.

They will look into several incidents including the assault on a doctor by a group of supporters of an election candidate, he told Ada Derana.

Meanwhile the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) says that 159 incidents of election law violations have been reported so far in relation to the upcoming Provincial Council polls.

Several incidents have been reported within the Anuradhapura District alone within the past 24 hours, Executive Director of PAFFREL, Rohana Hettiarachchi said.
