The bus driver who was allegedly assaulted by the Fisheries Minister of the Southern Provincial Council D.V. Upul withdrew his case against the Provincial Minister.

The dispute was resolved after the two parties were brought together and discussions were held. Upul was released following the discussion after he had been arrested in Tangalle earlier today.

The Provincial Minister was charged with assaulting a bus driver of the Tangalle depot, police spokesman Buddhika Siriwardena said.

He stated that the Southern Province Fisheries Minister had surrendered to police over the incident.

Upon inquiry the Minister stated that the bus driver was a relation from his father-in-law’s side and that it was a minor incident that was resolved amicably without having to take it to courts.
