Deraniyagala Police OIC transferred

The Officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Deraniyagala Police Station, Inspector Prabath Deshabandu has been transferred with immediate effect, in the wake of the recent murder of the superintendent of Noori Estate in Deraniyagala.

The Inspector of Police has been transferred to the Padiyathalawa Police Station in the Ampara District, the Police Spokesman’s Office said, adding, that the transfer order was issued under service requirements.

Incidentally 20 police officers attached to the Deraniyagala Police Station were also transferred on July 18.

Residents of Deraniyagala had accused the police of failing to carry out their duties properly in investigating the murder of the estate superintendent, allegedly due to political pressure.

A total of 21 suspects including Anil Champika, also known as ‘Atha Kota’, a former Deraniyagala Pradeshiya Sabha chairman, were arrested over the incident which occurred on July 05.
