The Supreme Court on Tuesday (19) decided to continue the hearing of a petition which filed against the move by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRC) to allocate its funds to purchase ‘Sil’ clothes for Buddhist devotees during the last Presidential election.

The petition has been filed by the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL).

The decision was taken when the case was taken up for hearing before a bench comprising Chief Justice K. Sripavan.

The State Council apprised the Justices that an audit report in this regard will be submitted the Court by next March. The petition will be heard again on May 5.

Earlier, the Colombo High Court granted bail to Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to the former President and Anusha Palpita, former Chairman of the TRC with respect to an another case filed in connection with this allegation. The accused were released on a cash bail of Rs.100,000 and three personal bails of Rs.1 million each.
