High Court grants bail to Basil and three others

The Colombo High Court on Monday (15) granted bail to former Minister Basil Rajapaksa. The Judge also granted bail to former Economic Development Ministry Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayatilaka, former Director General of the Divineguma Department, R.R.K. Ranawaka and Divi Neguma Regional Director Bandula Thilakasiri, Ada Derana reporter said.


The suspects were enlarged on a cash bail of Rs. 100,000 and four personal bails of Rs. 1 million each.
  

The Former Minister and the three other officials, who were arrested on charges of misappropriation of Divi Neguma funds, have been remanded until June 18 by the Kaduwala Magistrate’s Court.


Basil Rajapaksa and three other senior ministry officials were arrested by the police on April 22. They were arrested on charges of alleged misappropriation of funds in the Divi Neguma Department, which came under the purview of the Economic Development Minister.

 
Basil Rajapaksa, who left the country for the US on 11 January following the defeat of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the January Presidential Election, arrived here on April 21.
