Dematagoda fatal crash: Teen driver and mother remanded

The 15-year-old student and his mother who were arrested over the fatal accident in Dematagoda last night, which resulted in the death of a woman and her 10-year-old daughter, have been remanded after being produced at court today.  

The teenager was remanded till January 29 while his mother was remanded till January 25 by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

The fatal accident had occurred at around 8.50pm last night at a pedestrian crossing on Baseline Road near the Dematagoda railway ground. 

Police said the 47-year-old woman and her daughter were rushed to the Colombo National Hospital in critical condition, however they succumbed to injuries after being admitted. 

The teenager was arrested last night after it was revealed that he was behind the wheel of the car which ran over the mother-daughter duo while the former’s mother was arrested this morning on charges of abetment.
