Members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) who are currently holding ministerial portfolios in the unity government are slated to meet on Monday (January 2) in what will be a crucial discussion under the prevailing situation, political sources told Ada Derana.
A State Minister representing the SLFP, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that present political situation in the country will be extensively discussed during the meeting and that they will also discuss whether to quit the government or not.
He said that following the discussion a very important political decision would be taken in the new year.
Meanwhile political sources say that two more Deputy Ministers are preparing to quit the government most probably in the coming week.
Priyankara Jayaratne resigned from his position as the State Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government yesterday (30).
UPFA MP Bandula Gunawardena has said that several prominent figures of the government will be joining the ‘Joint Opposition’ by next week.
