Three Awissawella prison escapees caught

Three inmates who escaped from the Awissawella Prison have been apprehended, police said. Ten prisoners had escaped at around 5am yesterday after assaulting prison officers.

One of the prison escapees was arrested in Puvakpitiya at around 5.00pm yesterday while two more inmates were arrested by police at around 7.50pm last night.

The two prisoners aged 24 and 25 are said to be residents of Kosgama and Kaduwela.

Investigations are underway to apprehend the remaining 7 prisoners, police said. 

The inmates were brought to the Awissawella Prison on Wednesday and were scheduled to be produced before court yesterday.
