New Army Commander assumes duties

The newly-appointed 21st Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General A. W. J. Crishanthe De Silva who took office this morning (23) at the Army Headquarters, was greeted with military honours and other ceremonials before a large representative gathering of senior Army officers.

Silva was appointed as the 21st Army Commander, effective from February 22, 2015 on the directions of the President Maithripala Sirisena as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

Major General A.W.J.C De Silva had joined the Sri Lanka Army as Cadet Officer in 1980 and has served in many regions including operational areas. He has been awarded a number of medals including the Rana Wickrama Padakkama.
