Training program for Sri Lankan media professionals in India

Dr MCR HRD Institute rolled out a “Two-week Training Program on Media Management for Journalists and Media Professionals from Sri Lanka” on June 24th, 2024. 

 

The program, which has been sponsored by Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, under Indian Technical & Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Program, is being attended by 30 top-ranking journalists, including Media Advisor to Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Media Secretaries to Ministry of Public Administration, Central Province Governor, and Deputy Speaker, Parliament, and others.

 

Dr Shashank Goel, IAS, DG of the Institute & Spl. Chief Secretary to Government of Telangana, who was the Chief Guest at the Inaugural Function, said that the Media Professionals play a pivotal role, serve as the voice of people, facilitate informed decision making, and promote transparency in governance. “Journalism and Media Relations are not merely professions; they are indispensable pillars of the democratic societies”, Dr Shashank Goel, IAS observed. 

 

Dr Shashank Goel, IAS stated that the emergence of Social Media, with its  amazing speed and unprecedented access to global audience, has transformed the media landscape, across the globe, and brought about a profound transformation in the world of media. 

 

“It is not just a shift; it is a revolution, driven by new tools and techniques”. In addition, Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing the news industry, from content creations to audience engagement”  he stated and added that in this rapidly evolving landscape, the role of Journalists and Media Professionals is far more critical than ever and the importance of equipping the media professionals with latest skills and knowledge is the need of the hour.

 

Dr Shashank Goel, IAS stated that the sessions on such contemporary themes as Emerging Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, Digital and Social Media, will be greatly instrumental in further enriching and diversifying the skills profile of the Journalists and Media Professionals from Sri Lanka.  “The purpose of these sessions is to ensure that they continue to stay relevant, competitive, and effective in a rapidly changing media scenario, pointed out Dr Shashank Goel, IAS.

 

While concluding, Dr Shashank Goel, IAS stated that the wave if globalisation has transformed the world into a global village, which provides an opportunity to the Media Professionals to broaden their vision, understand different issues in their right perspective, and to find solutions to the problems by taking inputs from the global best practices. 

 

Dr Madhavi Ravulapati Madhavi, Course Director & Head CLP & CIS presented details about the unique features of the Training Program, welcomed the audience, and proposed a Vote of Thanks. Professor Abbas Ali, Senior Academic Advisor was also present at the Function.
