Australia won the toss and elected to field first against India in the final clash of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 on Sunday (19), with the five-time champions Australia, eyeing to add to their already bulging trophy cabinet against the unbeaten hosts of the tournament.
The teams are set to take each other on at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the largest stadium in the world, at 2.00 p.m. today (Nov. 19), with the presence of 130,000 spectators, which the Kangaroos know the vast majority will be cheering against their side.
For host nation India, this Cricket World Cup has been laden with layers of expectation, pressure and history from the very start.
And their tournament will come full circle on Sunday when it faces Australia in the final, 45 days after they played each other in the tournament’s opening game.
India eased to victory by six wickets in that game and have since dominated its home tournament with 10 consecutive wins, ratcheting up expectations in the cricket-obsessed nation that has waited 12 years for another one-day trophy.
On the other hand, Australia’s tournament spluttered into life following two losses in its opening two matches, against India and South Africa, before it won eight consecutive matches to navigate the group stage and defeat South Africa in the semifinals.
Prize Money
The tournament has a US$10 million pot. The winner of the tournament will take home US$4 million, with the runners-up winning US$2 million.
Teams also collected US$40,000 for every group stage win.
Meanwhile, both sides are expected to be unchanged from the semifinals.
