Two persons have been killed while another has sustained serious injuries in an accident involving an SLTB bus near the Galkade Junction in Welmilla on the Bandaragama-Kesbewa road.

Accordingly, the bus had veered off the road and ran over two persons standing near the road before crashing into a roadside shop.

The accident had occurred this afternoon (12) while a female passenger of the bus who sustained serious injuries in the accident has been hospitalized.

The victims in the incident include M.A. Shantha Ranjith, a 53-year-old resident of Akuressa, and S.K. Sumanasiri, a 60-year-old resident of Beralapanathara.

The driver of the bus has been arrested in connection with the accident.

During the interrogation of the driver, it has been revealed that the bus had suddenly veered to the right side of the road and that instead of the brakes he had mistakenly stepped on the accelerator pedal resulting in the accident.
