Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal added a massive partnership scoring tons. Mathews registered 141 in 259 deliveries, before he was dismissed by his own mistake with a ‘Hit Wicket’. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva was run out for 0.
On the first day, Sri Lanka’s openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Nishan Madushka scored a quick 80-run stand, leaving the Lions trailing their opponents by 118 runs with 10 wickets in hand.
Having won the toss, Sri Lanka skipper Dhananjaya de Silva opted to bowl against Afghanistan after which they restricted their opponents to 198 in 62.4 overs. Vishwa Fernando claimed 4/51, and Asitha Fernando and Prabath Jayasuriya took three wickets each.
Meanwhile, during Day 02, an unexpected interruption occurred as a monitor lizard made its way onto the field, causing a temporary halt of the match.
The incident took place during the 48th over of the Sri Lankan innings, prompting officials to intervene and attempt to scare off the monitor lizard. But the lizard eventually left the field on its own.
