The Presidential Candidate of the National People’s Power (NPP), Anura Kumara Dissanayaka highlighted the importance of providing debt relief to Sri Lanka’s farmers.

Addressing a gathering in Jaffna, the NPP’s Presidential Candidate went on to say that the NPP plans on establishing a development bank aimed at providing loan facilities to farmers at a low interest rate.

“We must provide debt relief to farmers. They end up pawning most of their possessions due to the debt burden. We have a plan carefully formulated through a survey, to write off a certain percentage of agricultural debt. We are also planning on establishing a development bank which will provide loans at lower interest rates. We possess a plan which will gradually provide debt relief to farmers”, he said.

Furthermore, Dissanayake added: “Recently in Yapahuwa, Ranil Wickremesinghe noted that voting for Sajith is the same as voting for Anura. What he means is that votes cast for Sajith will aid the NPP to secure victory. Meanwhile in Galle, Sajith said a vote cast for Ranil is the same as a vote cast for Anura.”

“We request the people of this country to not cast their vote for us through other parties. Cast your vote directly, we do not want your votes through Sajith or Ranil. Therefore, we inform Sajith and Ranil that we do not want their votes through other parties. Cast your vote for the NPP and let’s establish a NPP-led government”, Dissanayake said.

“The election that will be held on the 21st of September is the Presidential election. However, its results will impact the parliament too. It will not only send Ranil home, it will also send home a considerable number of other MPs.  Therefore your vote is incredibly powerful”, he added.
