Suu Kyi’s release a lesson to Sri Lanka’s leaders - Ranil

Opposition leader Ranil Wickramasinghe says that the release of Myanmar activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest is a victory for the democracy loving public of the world.

This can be considered as another victory of democracy as the anti-democratic journey of the military government, which took away her (Aung San Suu Kyi) freedom for 15 years was brought to an end, he pointed out.

It is evident through the release of Myanmar’s opposition leader that even though various leaders of the world on numerous occasions have acted out by disregarding democracy that those attempts are not everlasting, Ranil Wickramasinghe further added.

“Truly a fine opportunity has emerged in order to test whether there are better democratic qualities protected within Sri Lanka than the country of Myanmar” the opposition leader stated.

Mr. Wickramasinghe says that the release of Aung San Suu Kyi is also important as guidance for Sri Lanka’s leaders to come to a decision regarding the imprisoned former Army Chief Sarath Fonseka.
