Sri Lanka narrowly defeated Bangladesh by 7 runs in a tense encounter at the Under-19 Asia Cup in Dubai.

Batting first, Sri Lanka posted 228 in 49.2 overs.

Vimath Dinsara top-scored with a solid 106 off 132 balls, while contributions from Lakvin Abeysinghe (21) and Vihas Thewmika (22) helped push the total beyond 200.

Al Fahad starred with the ball for Bangladesh, taking 4 wickets for 50 runs, while Rizan Hossan and Md Rafi Uzzaman Rafi claimed three wickets between them.

Chasing a target of 229, Bangladesh faltered in the middle overs despite a fighting knock from Kalam Siddiki, who scored 95 from 134 balls.

Zawad Abrar (24) and Debasish Deba (31) added valuable contributions, but the wickets fell too frequently.

Vihas Thewmika’s 3-wicket haul, including key dismissals of Rizan Hossan and Azizul Hakim, proved pivotal. Kugadas Mathulan and Praveen Maneesha also contributed with important breakthroughs.

Despite a late flourish from Farid Hasan (24*), Bangladesh fell short, reaching 221 in 49.3 overs.

The Sri Lankan bowlers’ disciplined performance, led by Thewmika, secured a hard-fought victory for Sri Lanka.
