A decision on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Sri Lanka and India will be taken after the ongoing discussions, Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen said in parliament today.
Bathiudeen said this answering an oral question posed by UNP MP Ravi Karunanayaka today.
The Minister stated that the CEPA agreement is aimed at improving the bilateral trade between India and Sri Lanka. It would serve an extension of the Indo-Lanka Free Trade Agreement(FTA) which is currently in place, he stated. Bathiudeen added that from 2008, 16 rounds of discussions have taken place with India and the Sri Lankan Government is aiming at a stage-by-stage dialogue regarding the economic mismatch between the two countries.
