SJB’s Manjula Senaviratne elected Chairman of Aranayaka PS, Deputy Chairman from Sarvajana Balaya

Manjula Senaviratne of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) was today (19) elected the Chairman of the Aranayaka Pradeshiya Sabha after securing 16 votes.

 

G.W. Iresha of the Sarvajana Balaya was nominated and unanimously appointed as the Deputy Chairperson of the Aranayaka Pradeshiya Sabha.

 

The election to select the new chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha was held today at the assembly hall under the leadership of Sabaragamuwa Provincial Commissioner L.M.P.W. Bandara.

 

According to the results of the Local Government (LG) elections, the National People’s Power (NPP) succeeded in winning 13 seats of the Aranayaka Pradeshiya Sabha while the SJB secured eight seats.

 

The name of Rohana Dilip Kumara Fernando was proposed for the post of chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha on behalf of the NPP while the SJB proposed the name of Manjula Senavirathna.

 

Accordingly, during the vote, members of the SJB, Sarvajana Balaya, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, the United National Party, and the People’s Alliance cast their votes in favor of Senavirathna.

 

The candidate of the NPP received only 13 votes, while the member from the People’s Struggle Alliance abstained from voting.
