Ishara Sewwandi fled the country shortly after Ganemulla Sanjeewa’s murder: CID

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has uncovered that ‘Ishara Sewwandi’, the fugitive female who alleged to have aided and abetted the murder of notorious underworld figure and drug trafficker Ganemulla Sanjeewa inside the he Hulftsdorp No. 05 Magistrate’s Court on February 19, 2025., has fled the country.

 

This revelation was made during interrogations of Kehelbaddara Padme and others, who were recently arrested in Jakarta, Indonesia, and brought back to Sri Lanka.

 

The arrests were part of a joint operation conducted by Sri Lanka Police, Indonesian Police, and Interpol, targeting organized criminals and drug traffickers. The group, including Kehelbaddara Padme, Commando Salintha, and Backhoe Saman, is currently being questioned under a 72-hour detention order.

 

Meanwhile, Mandinu Padmasiri Perera also known as Kehelbaddara Padme, Nilanga Sampath Silva also known as Panadura Nilanga and Salintha Madushan Perera known as Commando Salintha are currently being held at the CID for interrogation.

 

Furthermore, Lahiru Madusanka also known as Thambili Lahiru and N.N. Prasanga known as Backhoe Saman are being held at the Colombo Harbour Police under the Western Province North Crime Division.

 

During ongoing interrogations, several key details related to the murder of Ganemulla Sanjeewa at the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court complex have been revealed. Among these, it was disclosed that Ishara Sewwandi, the woman believed to have assisted in the killing, fled the country shortly after the incident.
Meanwhile, at the time of arrest in Indonesia, 28 mobile phones were found in possession of the suspects and seized by Indonesian police.

 

These devices have since been handed over to the Sri Lanka Police, and investigations have commenced into the call records and communications extracted from them.
