Sivakarthikeyan-Sai Pallavi’s Amaran to open at IFFI 2025, nominated for Golden Peacock award

Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi’s blockbuster 2024 film Amaran, directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy continues to earn laurels a year after its release.

The action drama, which was a biopic of Major Mukund Varadarajan, has been nominated for the Golden Peacock Award under the International Competition and will be the opening feature film in the Indian Panorama section at the 56th International Film Festival of India, Goa.

Sharing the news, Kamal Haasan, who backed the film, said he was “proud” that the army officer’s story “that stirred India’s soul will now echo across the world.”

Amaran stars Sivakarthikeyan as Major Mukund Varadarajan, a commissioned officer in the Indian Army’s Rajput Regiment. Mukund Varadarajan was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra for his act of bravery during a counterterrorism operation while on deputation to the 44th Rashtriya Rifles battalion in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sai Pallavi plays his wife Indhu Rebecca Varghese. The film released in theatres on October 31 to majorly positive reviews from audiences and critics who praised cast performances, direction, screenplay, and music by GV Prakash.

The film also stars Bhuvan Arora as Sepoy Vikram Singh and Rahul Bose as Mukund’s Commanding Officer, Colonel Amit Singh Dabas. Lallu, Shreekumar, Shyam Mohan, Ajaey Naga Raaman, Mir Salman and Gaurav Venkatesh round up the supporting cast. Amaran is based on Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh’s book India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Millitary.

Amaran’s crew includes cinematographer CH Sai, editor Kalaivanan, and stunt director Stefan Richter. The film was bankrolled by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International along with Sony Pictures International Productions.
