Rajinikanth is all set to be awarded at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on completing 50 years in cinema. IFFI is taking place in Goa, from November 20 to 28.

On August 15, 1975, K Balachandar’s Apoorva Ragangal introduced a new actor, Rajinikanth to Tamil cinema, playing the role of Pandiyan. He went on to star in 171 films with his latest being, Coolie, which released on August 14, 2025.

Coolie was directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, and also starred Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, and Shruti Haasan. The film reunited Rajinikanth and Sathyaraj after Mr Bharath (1986).

It was also recently announced that Rajinikanth will star in a film backed by Kamal Haasan, and directed by Sundar C. The upcoming film, tentatively titled Thalaivar 173, is the first collaboration between the Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan after Thillu Mullu (1981).
