Former Indian captain MS Dhoni is not done with the Indian Premier League (IPL) yet, as he is certain to feature in the next season for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The confirmation has come directly from the franchise, with CEO Kasi Viswanathan assuring fans of Dhoni’s participation. Additionally, reports suggest that the Sanju Samson trade discussion has resurfaced on CSK’s table, indicating possible off-season developments.

Viswanathan, who has been associated with the franchise since its inception in 2008, much like Dhoni, recently confirmed to a young fan that the legendary wicketkeeper-batter will indeed be part of the upcoming IPL season. Over the years, Viswanathan has been an integral figure in CSK’s operations, serving as a trusted ally of the former team owner N. Srinivasan and playing a crucial role in maintaining the stability and success of the five-time champions.

The 44-year-old cricketer’s participation in the IPL has been a topic of speculation ahead of almost every season in recent years. However, CSK CEO’s confirmation has finally put an end to the uncertainty, at least for the 2026 edition.

The franchise endured a disappointing 2025 campaign, finishing at the bottom of the table, with Dhoni leading the side in the absence of regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. It is widely believed that Dhoni might be looking to sign off on a high next season.

Dhoni has been synonymous with CSK, having represented the team in all but two seasons when the franchise was suspended.

If he features in the upcoming season, it will mark his 17th campaign for CSK and 19th overall in the IPL, having been part of the tournament since its inception in 2008. Over the years, Dhoni has played 248 matches for CSK, amassing 4,865 runs and leading the team to five IPL titles, in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023.

The legendary skipper is also actively involved in CSK’s planning for the next season. Ahead of the November 15 retention deadline, Dhoni is expected to hold a meeting with key members of the franchise, including CEO, Gaikwad, and head coach Stephen Fleming. The discussions, scheduled for November 10 and 11, are expected to finalize retention and trade decisions, including the ongoing Samson trade talks.

As per Cricbuzz, CSK and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have reopened discussions regarding a potential trade involving Samson. Sources suggest that a top CSK player could be included in the deal if it progresses.

RR owner Manoj Badale, who recently arrived in Mumbai from London, has been exploring multiple trade options, holding talks with various franchises including Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Delhi Capitals (DC).

It is believed that CSK has already reached out to the player potentially involved in the deal to gauge his willingness to move to RR. A clearer picture regarding the trade and Dhoni’s future plans is expected to emerge in the coming days.
