Sri Lanka shines at Dubai 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix

Team Sri Lanka delivered a stellar performance at the Dubai 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix, held from 6 to 13 February, securing a total of five medals including two golds in the 17th Fazza International Open Championship.

 

Leading the charge was WAJD Wickramasingha (T47), who dominated the women’s events by winning gold in both the 100m T46/47 final with a time of 12.88 seconds and the long jump T47 final with a distance of 5.25 meters.

 

In the men’s events, SMASM Subasinghe (T47) earned two silver medals, finishing second in the 400m T47 final in 50.86 seconds and the 100m T47 final in 11.29 seconds. 

 

DDBH Fernando (T47) also earned with a silver in the men’s long jump T46/47 final, with a distance of 6.49 meters, while placing 7th in the 100m T47 final with a time of 11.93 seconds.

 

The overall medal tally for Sri Lanka stood at two golds and three silvers, marking a remarkable achievement for the nation in international para athletics.
