St. Sebastian’s-Prince of Wales ‘Battle of the Golds’ ends in a draw

The 76th Battle of the Golds between St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa and Prince of Wales’ College Moratuwa ended in a draw at the Tyronne Fernando Cricket Stadium in Moratuwa this evening.

Chasing a modest 131-run target on the final day, Prince of Wales’ College managed 54/5 when the captains decided to call it a day.

Despite a solitary batting display by Sebastian batters, Prince of Wales secured the first innings honors in this year’s big match.

St. Sebastian’s College batting first was dismissed for 214 in 78.3 overs with Chamath Wellalage scoring 58.

In response, Prince of Wales’ College posted 263 in their first innings. Suwash Fernando hit an impressive 77.

The St. Sebastian’s batters scored 279/4 in their second outing before the declaration in hope of securing an outright victory.

Kaveesha Perera and Thivanka Fernando scored 52 and 50 runs respectively.

Although St. Sebastian bowlers were equally impressive in the final innings, they managed to dismiss only half of the opponents’ lineup resulting in handing honors of 76th Battle of the Golds to the Prince of Wales’ College Moratuwa.
