One of the key focuses of the state visit to Sri Lanka is to resolve the visa issues faced by Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated, adding that he is confident a permanent solution will be found soon.
President Muizzu met with the Maldivian diaspora in Sri Lanka yesterday, where he said that important work has been done over the past two years to find a solution for visa issues, with some headway having been made.
“The Sri Lankan government is placing high priority on finding a permanent resolution to the issue. Our High Commissioner is liaising with the Foreign Ministry on this matter,” the President said.
“The assurance that I got from the Sri Lankan President is that the current concerns on the issue, these rose several years ago. The issues are being resolved and now we have got assurance that a permanent solution will be found,” he added.
President Mohamed Muizzu said that the government is working with relevant Sri Lankan authorities to finalize arrangements for this, and related official talks are being held during the ongoing State visit as well.
