A country’s judicial system should act independently and should be free of any political interference, former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka stated at the High Court today (May 26) when the White Flag case was taken up.
Continuing his statement from the stand, Fonseka said that even the Attorney General’s Department was biased towards the government, often bringing those who oppose the government to courts while turning a blind eye to corruption.
Fonseka said that he would accept a ruling given by an independent judiciary while adding that he has helped save the country from terrorism and will now continue his fight to rid the country of corruption.
Fonseka will continue his statement when the case is taken up again on May 31.
