One month before project supervisor Murugaiyan Selvam was to marry, he was bashed on the head with a dumb-bell allegedly by his married lover. Sri Lankan maid Tharmalingam Puwaneswary, 33, is now on trial in the High Court for culpable homicide.
The 33-year-old, who is said to be suffering from schizophrenia, was originally charged with murder
Mr Murugaiyan, 32, had been found dead with head injuries in his living quarters in Kaki Bukit Crescent. His death allegedly took place between 11pm the night before and 9.15am on Dec 4 , 2009.
Tharmalingam denies hitting him and said that he was alive when she left him soon after midnight. Her lawyers, Mr Abraham Vergis and Mr Gopinath Pillai, are also challenging the validity of her police confessions in the six-day hearing.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Amarjit Singh said that although Mr Murugaiyan knew she was married with two children in Sri Lanka, he would use the company’s lorry and he would pick her up at Serangoon Gardens after her employers had gone to bed at about 10pm. They would then have sex in a hotel or in his room and he would drive her back by 1am, straitstimes reports.
