Minister Mervyn Silva says that a new law should be introduced for the government to take over ‘unsuccessful’ political parties and parties which mislead the public, similar to the proposed nationalization of under-performing private companies.

Criticizing opposition parties for remarks made against the Revival of Under-performing Enterprises and Under-utilised Assets Act, which is scheduled to be presented to parliament next week, he said:

“A new law should be introduced to Parliament to inquire into all unsuccessful parties, parties which mislead the public, parties that tattletale to imperialists in Europe, parties that encouraged the LTTE. And the whole lot of these parties should be taken over by the government.”

Mervyn requested that he too be made a part of it, by appointing him as an official for taking over these parties.

The outspoken Minister of Public Relations and Public Affairs stated that there cannot be losses or any breakdowns in businesses during President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s rule.

If the country’s economy is to be developed, the standard of companies has to increase, he stressed “be it private or state-owned institutions.”

Mahinda Rajapaksa’s government and cabinet paved a way for all businessmen to come up, he told a gathering at an event held today (Nov. 04) in Kiribathgoda.

“This government is like the rivers Mahaweli, Kalani, Walawe, Kalu. I say that because it is these four rivers that drive the country towards prosperity.”

“It is from these rivers that new businesses spawn.” the Minister expressed.
