Lankan diplomat elected to London Consular Corps

A Sri Lankan diplomat has been elected to the executive committee of the Consular Corps of London for the first time in history. Chaminda Kularatne, Minister Counsellor handling consular affairs & Immigration at the High Commission in London was recently elected together with Diplomats from Cyprus, Belgium, Seychelles and Latvia.
 
The Consular Corps of London established in 1902 is a prestigious association of all diplomatic officers handling consular affairs at the diplomatic missions and the honorary consulates based in London.

The Association provides its members with opportunities for networking and inters cultural activities.

Mr. Kularatne’s election is for a period of three years and an Asian diplomat is to hold this position after five years, first time for a Sri Lankan diplomat.
 
Mr. Kularatne, an Attorney at Law & holds a LLB.  He has obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

He was the Senior Assistant Secretary to the President of Sri Lanka prior to his posting to London as a diplomat. He has served as a member of the director board of the Bank of Ceylon and the Coordinating Secretary to the Minister of Finance and Planning.

Mr. Kularatne plans to work closely with over 100 consular officers who are active members of the Consular Corps and create awareness among the London diplomatic community on the post –conflict development initiatives taking place in Sri Lanka.
