It has been reported that around 1,600,000 letters including almost 400,000 registered post have piled up at the Colombo Central Postal Exchange alone as a result of the trade union action launched by postal workers demanding the immediate removal of the Postmaster General.
The trade union action, which commenced on November 20, today enters day seven as postal workers show no sign of withdrawing.
The postal trade union coalition however has agreed to select and distribute letters relevant to the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examinations, which is to begin next month.
Media spokesman of the coalition Chinthaka Bandara speaking to Ada Derana on this stated that they have also decided to distribute letters of the Examinations Department, however added that the union action will continue until their demands are met.
Meanwhile postal officials and worker in the Galle District withdrew from trade union action yesterday.
