The Colombo High Court today postponed giving a verdict on whether to continue with proceedings on the Hicorp fraud case against Sarath Fonseka. The verdict will be issued on February 28, Colombo High Court judge Sunil Rajapakse stated.
He stated that the decision, which was scheduled to be announced today, was still not prepared and was therefore postponed to February 28.
Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka, his son-in-law Danuna Tilakaratne and Director of HiCorp Pvt. Ltd. Wellington De Hoedt were accused of defrauding the Army by purchasing military hardware going beyond the tender procedure.
Defense has raised an argument that that due to the Court Martial finding Sarath Fonseka guilty on charges related to the Hi-Corp fraud case, the High Court does not have legality to continue the Hicorp case against the former Army Commander.
The Colombo High Court was scheduled to issue its verdict today (Jan 20) on whether court proceedings regarding the case would continue.
