Another infant death at Mahamodara Hospital

Another infant being treated at the Special Children’s Unit of the Mahamodara Maternity Hospital in Galle has died, bringing the total number of infant deaths at the hospital’s children’s unit within a month to seven.
Acting Director of Mahamodara Hospital, Dr. Rukshan Bellana stated that the infant’s condition had been unstable in the past several days and had passed away yesterday (03) night.
He added that an intensive health protection program has been put into action within the Special Children’s Unit of the hospital due to this.
An inquiry commenced into the past six infant deaths at the Special Children’s Unit had determined that a germ entering the unit had caused the deaths.
