
The committee appointed to look into the sudden increase in infant deaths at the neonatal unit of the Mahamodara hospital in Galle, has submitted report to the Ministry of Health.
Director of the Medical Research Institute (MRI) Specialist Dr. Anil Samaranayake stated that the report was handed over to the Director General of Health Services yesterday (12).
The neonatal unit of the Mahamodara hospital was temporarily closed down following several deaths of newborn babies within a short span of time.
A team of five specialist doctors were appointed afterwards in order to probe and determine the cause for the sudden deaths.
The report prepared by the said team following extensive inspections and tests has been submitted to the Ministry of Health and is said to contain several recommendations.
The Health Ministry stated that the report will be released to the media today (13).
