UN Special Envoy of Sri Lanka, Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe stated that the draft resolution presented by the US was unacceptable as it undermines the resolution taken in 2009 by the UNHRC, adding that Sri Lanka had been selectively targeted by certain parties with political agendas.
Addressing the UNHRC, he said that due to these parties misinforming the council and the rest of the world, Sri Lanka will be compelled to face a resolution which will have adverse ramification on not only them but other countries too.
“Those who live in glass houses should best exercise caution before throwing stones”, the Minister stated while adding that Sri Lanka will not accept the resolution on principle citing that the founding principles of the UNHRC were being assailed.
He further requested the member countries to take an objective view towards the resolution and to honour the principle of not adopting country-specific resolutions.
“Physicians, heal yourselves”, he stated in closing to the sponsors of the resolution.
