Precautionary landing after false warning – Mihin Lanka
Mobitel Inner

Mihin Lanka states that the smoke warning in the cargo area of a Jakarta-bound flight, which resulted in a precautionary landing one hour after takeoff today morning, has been concluded by the investigation team as a “false warning.”

Mihin Aircraft MJ603 was flying scheduled services from Colombo to Jakarta today (April 09) and after one hour of take off there was a smoke warning in AFT cargo area.

The pilot carried out the applicable recommended actions and as per procedures made a precautionary landing back in Colombo, Mihin Lanka said in a press release.

“On initial and preliminary investigation it was determined that no damage or indication of a smoke was found in the cargo area concerned. As such, at this point of time it is the opinion of the investigation team that the smoke indication was a false warning.”

“As per procedure it was the responsibility of the pilot to declare an emergency in order to alert all airport support services. And this was done and the precautionary landing was carried out safely and successfully,” the release added.

Mihin Lanka further stated that the aircraft is now being prepared for services and that it intends to operate rest of the scheduled services on time.
