CTU files motion over Z-Score delay

The Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU) says it today filed a motion with the Supreme Court against the failure of relevant authorities to put into effect the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding the results of 2011 G.C.E. Advanced Level examination.

The judgment on the Fundamental Rights petition filed by a group of A/L students and the Ceylon Teachers’ Union, against the formulation of the Z-Score for the 2011 A/L examination, was delivered by Supreme Court on June 25.

While close to three weeks have passed since a clear judgment was issued, the Education Ministry, the Higher Education Ministry and the University Grants Commission (UGC) has still failed to put the deicion into effect, General Secretary of the CTU Joseph Stalin stated.

The Supreme Court had ordered the University Grants Commission (UGC) to annul z-score calculation, recalculate for old and new syllabus separately and issue correct results without delay.

However, due to authorities shifting the blame to one another and issuing statements which leave students stranded and not carrying out the verdict, the CTU today filed a motion with the Supereme Court, he told Ada Derana.
