The officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Pettah Police Station Crimes Unit and a sergeant have been arrested by the bribery commission for soliciting a bribe of Rs. 100,000.
The two officers were arrested while accepting the bribe at the Fort Police Station from a resident of Kirulapana.
The bribe was requested by the Crimes OIC in order to refrain from taking legal action against the man, who was allegedly arrested for the possession of stolen jewellery.
Inspector Aluthgedara Tikiri Bandara Wijeratne and Sergeant Upul Wasantha Kumara were arrested last Friday (16) while accepting the bribe and were remanded until November 30 after being presented before a court.
