
The Deputy Commissioner of the Inland Revenue Department for Anuradhapura, Disna Wasanthi Menike, and two assessors have been arrested for soliciting a bribe of Rs. 1.2 million.
The officials were arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption while obtaining a sum of Rs. 500,000 out of the total bribe.
The bribe was taken for allegedly reducing a tax from Rs.9 million to Rs.2.5 million by incorrectly assessing the bank balance of a businessman from Anuradhapura, sources stated.
The suspects are to be produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate.
