
The Chairman of the Dompe Pradeshiya Sabha and another PS member, who demanded a bribe of Rs. 7 million from businessman, have been arrested by the bribery commission while accepting a portion of the money.
The local politicians had demanded the large sum of money in exchange for a permit to carry out stone quarrying in an 11 acre land and for the preparing of a plan to develop a section of the land plot.
They had requested a sum of Rs. 600,000 in advance, out of which Rs. 200,000 had already been paid by the businessman.
However, the duo were arrested today (11) by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption while accepting the remaining Rs. 400,000 of the advance.
