
A total of 702 persons have been treated for injuries sustained from accidents within the past 48 hours at the Colombo National Hospital while 204 of them are still admitted in the hospital, an official said today.
However, there is a visible decline in the number of accidents during this festive season, said the Director of the Accident and Orthopedic Service, Dr. Prasad Ariyawansa.
He stated that 498 persons were treated at the Out Patients Department (OPD) this year, which is a 17 per cent decline compared to the 598 patients treated last year.
Dr. Ariyawansa further stated that 150 persons were treated for injuries sustained from traffic accidents last year while that number reduced to 109 this time, which is 27 per cent decline.
