Vaccine halted as tests confirm ‘glass piece’ inside vial

It has been confirmed that the foreign object found inside an antibiotic vaccination vial at the Kalubowila Hospital was in fact a piece of glass, while the Ministry of Health has decided to remove the entire batch of vials as a precautionary measure.
The suspected glass piece was discovered on December 30 inside a vial containing the Cloxacillin vaccine and an inquiry was launched by the Cosmetics, Devices and Drugs Regulatory Authority.
CDDRA director Dr. Hemantha Beneragama stated that tests have confirmed the foreign object found inside the vial was a piece of glass. “Therefore it has been decided to completely remove the vaccine from usage in the country,” he said.
