The United National Party says it will vote against the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) report on the impeachment of Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake, when it’s taken up for debate in Parliament on January 10 and 11.
The entire parliamentary committee process including the impeachment brought forth by the government against the Chief Justice is unconstitutional and illegal, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said.
It has been brought to our attention that the government intends to present this proposal for debate in parliament in violation of the Supreme Court verdict, he said in a press release issued today.
“Therefore was unanimously decided today during the meeting of the UNP parliamentary group that we as the United National Party attend the debate on the proposal to voice our opposition to this unconstitutional process and vote against it,” he said.
