President moves to appoint new Chief Justice

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has sought the observations of the Parliamentary Council for his nominee to be appointed as chief justice, President’s Spokesman Mohan Samaranayake said.
The nominee has been intimated to the Parliamentary Council which is scheduled to meet tomorrow (15) to ratify the appointment.
It is widely believed that former Attorney General Mohan Peiris would be the next chief justice and would be installed in office tomorrow.
He has emerged as the front runner to succeed Shirani Bandaranayake, who was removed from the post on Sunday.
