
A vehicle driven by the Chairman of the state timber corporation was involved in an accident last night resulting in the death of one of the passengers.
The vehicle had veered off the road and crashed into a coconut tree in the Mangalaeliya area on the Chilaw-Puttalam Road, police said.
The STC chairman’s 80-year-old mother-in-law, Seelawathi Mayadunna, a resident of Udugampola, was killed in the accident which had taken place at around 8.30pm yesterday (20).
The timber corporation chairman, his wife and mother-in-law were traveling in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
