Ammo haul recovered from Mahakanadarawa reservoir

Police have recovered a large haul of live ammunition at the Mahakanadarawa reservoir in Mihintale.
The ammunition were found in the water below the small bridge of the Anuradhapura-Trincomalee main road, built across the Mahakanadarawa reservoir.
Police said 1,854 Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammo, 762 bullets for T56 rifles have been recovered. It is said that MPMG ammo are mostly utilized for long-range targets such as aircrafts.
Mihintale Police suspect that the ammo haul had been dumped in the reservoir by a certain persons several days ago.
A haul of around 2,600 MPMG and T56 ammunition had been found in the exact location recently.
