Regardless of what anyone says, at this moment the country has two Chief Justices, UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella stated. He added that the world accepts one of them and the government accepts the other.
The world accepts Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake as Sri Lanka’s Chief Justice while the government only accepts Mohan Peiris, he stated at a press conference held today (January 23) in Colombo.
He pointed out that at the last UN Human Rights Council session, the government stated that the country has an independent judiciary which is capable of looking at accusations of human rights violations on its own.
MP Kiriella went on to question if the country can still claim that it has an independent judiciary.
