A Police Sergeant attached to the Mahaoya Police station in Ampara has used his service weapon to shoot and kill himself, police Media Spokesman SSP Prishantha Jayakoddy stated.
The incident occurred at around 3am this morning (January 24) while his body was taken to the Mahaoya hospital.
The Mahaoya police have launched an investigation into the incident, SSP Jayakoddy added.
