Kalpitiya Police have arrested 16 individual, including a foreign national, for filming a movie without proper approval.
The arrests were made after police received information regarding a group engaged in filming near the Pallivasal Thurai Lagoon in Kalpitiya last evening.
A woman from Pita Kotte, said to be the Director and Producer of the movies, an American and 11 Tamil women, residents of Pallivasal Thurai, were among those arrested while engaged in shooting the movie.
A 20-year-old young woman who was at the location stated that they were asked by the movie’s director to portray how water is carefully carried through a minefield, Ada Derana reporter said.
It was revealed that the filming crew did not possess proper approval required to engage in filming in any area.
A video camera, camera equipment and a computer was also taken into custody by police.
All arrested persons have been released by police after recording statements.
