Eradicating drug menace priority this year - IGP

The eradication of the illegal drug trade is the police department’s first duty this year, says Inspector General of Police N. K. Illangakoon emphasizing that the people of the country are suffering due to narcotics.
He stated that trough the new proposed law permitting the detention of suspect for 48 hours in police stations, police will be able to interrogate them and solve cases within 3 weeks.
The IGP made these comments during a ceremony to declare open a new Police Station in the Kochchikade area.
